Our History
A bit of history on our personal experience with cancer;
My Godfather died of Leukemia AML when I was just 1 year old.
My younger brother James was diagnosed with Leukemia AML at 7 years old. Initially we knew the odds of surviving this particular disease, especially at such a young age. While in the hospital I saw many doctors, family members, friends and patients encouraging each other; hoping for and praying for my brother to make a full recovery. My brother kept up, he fought long and hard. He wasn't afraid to ask exactly was happening to him, the real answers with every update. James did everything he could to come alongside the other kids on his floor and connect through anything that could keep spirits high; hockey, games, sports. They gave each other encouragement, a shoulder to lean on, cry on, and most of all hope. So many people helped James through his fight with cancer and ultimately to reclaim his health and life back. James, now a 30+ year Leukemia AML survivor, is very active in giving back to the community. James now works as a Rapid Intervention Tech in ER at Yale New Haven Hospital, he now helps to save lives just as all those doctors and nurses helped him to survive all those years ago. My first dog, Pierce a pure bred Boxer, unfortunately did not survive his battle with Leukemia. Pierce was only 5 years old when he was overcome by the disease. It broke our hearts to see this happen. Over the years, as I watched my loved ones battle, I always wondered what I could do to help; what could I do to give back to all these caring and giving souls who went through or are going through the same thing that we as a family went through and specifically what James experienced. My truck ,Fighting Chance, was my way of creating a symbol for children and adults to believe in dreams coming true; it is meant to be a symbol of positivity in a situation that can at times feel endless or hopeless that you CAN beat cancer. There IS hope. There WILL be a cure. I wanted to give back in a form that I am very passionate about and inspire those fighting to not give in or give up, keep fighting everyday.

Drive to Survive Foundation
James Carilli established the Drive to Survive foundation. This foundation allows another way to support and give back to those who need it. There are great financial burdens that come with needing treatment for a long periods of time. James remembers all of the people that helped while he was in the hospital and this foundation was a way for him to help families who are struggling with their own demanding bills. Every year James hosts a Halloween Party with a guest of honor in effort to raise money for the honoree & their family. Throughout the year the foundation will donate to other families around the state of Connecticut, as well as works closely with Connecticut Children's Medical Center CCMC.
Contact us today if you want to get involved with the foundation by means of donating or nominating a family for consideration.
